Pediatric University medical professions visited Grozny maternity hospital
Together with Chechen colleagues doctors from Saint-Petersburg carried out operations on six newborns, who needed emergency and urgent care.
Last week, Alexey Yakovlev, the deputy chief for neonatology at SPbSPMU, Yuri Rodionov, the neurosurgeon, and Nazar Zelenin, an anesthesiologist, flew to the capital of the Chechen Republic.
In Grozny, doctors from Saint-Petersburg performed a number of neurosurgical and general surgical operations. All patients are newborns, the youngest is 3 days old and the oldest is 28 days old.
St. Petersburg experts consulted doctors of the intensive care unit of the Grozny hospital and evaluated the work of the neonatal service. They also gave recommendations for the management of young patients who are on long-term inpatient treatment.
– We are constantly in touch with our Chechen colleagues, telemedicine consultations are held almost daily, - said Alexey Yakovlev and added that the University management plans to increase the number of working trips to the Republic. In August a team of SPbSPMU doctors will go to Grozny again.
In 2018 was reached an agreement on cooperation between the Pediatric University and the government of Chechnya. Summing up the results of the Year of health care in the Chechen Republic, Dmitry Ivanov, rector of SPbSPMU, noted that the infant mortality rate in the region has decreased by 3.5 times over the past five years.
